About the Samaná peninsula

Before we start talking about the real estate market in Samaná, you should know about why this place is so attractive to investors, tourists and retired foreigners.
The peninsula know as Samaná is a paradise in the Dominican Republic, bordered by mesmerising beaches with white sand, crystal clear turquoise blue waters and mountains full of coconut palms and a magnificient forest. It is located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, and it is known for hosting the highest concentration of coconut palms per square meter in the world. Out of the 32 provinces in he Dominican Republic, Samaná is amongst the most popular ones. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Samaná, and 3 different provinces (Monte Plata, Duarte, and Maria Trinidad Sánchez), it is also considered to have some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Caribbean.
The province of Samaná has amazing touristic developments, but also many virgin areas (this creates interest amongst real estate investors). The developments are mainly concentrated in the center of Samaná, Las Terrenas and Las Galeras. Boutique hotels and apartment rentals take the lead in the market. Many investors buy apartments in luxurious and modern complexes, and rent them out to holidaymakers. Nevertheless, it is not all for tourists, Samaná also has many great locations that offer a more peaceful living, just outside of the city centre and with the beach around the corner.

Las Terrenas

Did you know that back in the 70s, Las Terrenas was a small town of fishermen, farmers, and beekeepers that lived in their shacks, without water and electricity. They were forgotten and accessing the area was not easy. In 1975 Jean “the Frenchman” arrived in Las Terrenas and inaugurated the first hotel in Las Terrenas , know as ”Tropic Banana”. This was the beginning of significant rise in tourism and a massive change to the lifestyle of locals. Moreover, the tiny fishing village known as Santa Barbara de Samaná and founded in 1756, is now mainly a tourist destination which conserves its original vibe.
Nowdays, tourism, commerce and fishing generate the biggest income in the city. The astonishing beaches and the incredible deveplopments in Las Terrenas, attract all sorts of people, even movie producers! There are excellent hotels and restaurants throughout the coast.

Here is a list of the most beautiful beaches in las Terrenas:

  • Playa Cosón
  • Playa Bonita
  • Playa Las Ballenas
  • Playa Perdida
  • Punta Poppy
  • El Portillo
  • Playa Estillero
  • Playa Morón
  • Playa Limón

Las Galeras

Despite its remote location in the eastern end of the Samaná Peninsula, the village is full of activity thanks, mostly, to the epicenter of the town. El Kiosko, a bare-bones grouping of local cooks beneath a roof thatched with palm fronds, serves up creole seafood dishes and Presidente beer to a crowd of locals, expats, and tourists. Nonetheless, this is not the only thing Las Galeras has to offer. This place is also home for some of the most specular beaches and diving spots in the Caribbean.

Here is a list of popular beaches in Las Galeras:

  • Playa Rincón
  • Playa Frontón
  • Playa Colorado
  • La Playita
  • Playa Madama
